Development Background
Game Summary: Medieval 4x.
User Story: Command an empire and war against other players for global dominance.
Product Challenges: I joined Valor to work on its first major expansion, known as Barbarian Cities. Prior to the expansion the game was largely a clone of the browser game Tribal Wars. This design task essentially had me redesigning the entire game under a new “barbarian” theme with the added challenge of incorporating PvE mechanics into what was a solely PvP game.

Feature - barbarian cities
Barbarian Cities was the name of a suite of features introduced including the following:
-
New, capturable NPC cities on the world map with unique capture mechanics
-
New city view complete with unique buildings and perks
-
New troop types both to fight in NPC form and train in the Barbarian City barracks
-
New events centered around Barbarian City combat and capture
Barbarian Cities introduced the first PvE experience in Valor. Prior to this expansion, players could only attack other player cities and troops.
The expansion also effectively doubled the amount of gameplay and economy sink in the game.
The expansion was introduced as a new World Type, so players could opt into player into world with or without Barbarian Cities.
